On January 22, 2021, Prof. Guy-Bernard Cadière - Abdominal Surgeon at CHU Saint Pierre - and his team arrived in Bukavu, Congo to start their 23th mission at the Panzi Hospital.
Right before his departure, we got the chance to sit down with Prof. Cadière to talk about the situation in that area, and why help is so desperately needed there.
Mission Panzi
Hospital Panzi is located in a region of war where rape with extreme violence is used as a weapon. Three times a year the Saint-Pierre hospital in Brussels organizes missions at the Panzi Hospital to help these victims, whom we like to call survivors.
The goal of Prof. Cadière's team is to repair the damage done by these rapes with extreme violence.
Our commitment to the Panzi missions
In order to be able to perform these interventions, it requires equipment. Equipment that is not available locally, making the organisation dependent solely on grants and donations.
We at Duomed are committed to this organization and are glad to support this wonderful project by donating laparascopic instruments. This way, interventions can be made possible as well as the training of local surgeons.
